fishing close to floating island,penty of lumps around 8-10 lb what`s the best elastic to stop the fish diving straight through the submerged roots ?

I usualy use 24 grade for that but if you want to use a smaller grade go for 16.

a decent 20 solid i would think mate.might get away with slightly smaller if set tight. u may need slighty stronger line aswel.

Its alright having heavy elastic but if it goes through a normal power kit there is to much elastic in the pole and they will still get in the snags, you will be better off having a shorter length just through the top section (having said this your pole must be strong enough to do this) or tighten it up so it hardly pulls out. You will be suprised how much elastic a carp of that size can pull out.

I use middy 22-24 battle elastic for my snag fishing ,9lb line straight through to a size 10 hook used in conjunction with my old drennen margin pole.
