spar corn for me - big tin and dead sugary !! as for the pole industry taking us for a ride, for instance sensas giving the buyer of a new pole from them a joker card which to me is basically telling intelligent people that a section of that shiny new sensas pole WILL brake !why not just offer a decent guarantee and be done with it.

I have a pole (yes, I know you can't believe that!). It's a shakespere Flavia which, at the time I bought it many moons ago, was the dogs danglers for it's price range at around £350. It's light, relatively thin and pretty stiff. I wonder if I could land a carp of say 10lbs on it. I'd have to cut it back and re-elasticate it, but under strain, it should be capable, the same as a rod - it'll bend as the fish pulls, yes? Would be no good these days as a versatile match tool for one reason - it's less than 14m.

What happened to the day when you could feed with a catapult and gradually draw the fish closer until they were in easier reach, like the great waggler anglers of yesteryear?

So what do you reckon, should I attempt to use this pole on our matches at Cob House? It's long enough to fish most areas on all the pools..... I wonder. I've had it at least 15 years and used it about 10 times!! Might give it a go!

Mind you, then I have to get a roller - do I get a tripod, or one with 4 legs and rollers at the sides. Actually, I'll need 2 rollers, then a modified aquarium net to stick the front in when I break it down. Hang on, I only have one other top 2. Then I'll have to get one of those seat boxes with a chest of drawers built in and I'll have to make up at least 4 identical rigs for every eventuality in case I get broke and have to make one up on the bank, which will cost me at least 3 minutes! And I'll have to get tons of metal work to make a framework all around me so I don't have to bend to pick something up... and a barrow to transport it all, and a new car to fi it all in every time i fish a match......... i hope I can drive right up to my peg........ naahhhhh, I'll stick to me rod.

Wayeob.... spot on mate!

think you may have slightly missed the point with the joker card mate , you still get your guarentee with sensas poles but what they are saying is that if you the angler break a section no matter how they will replace it . its a good idea but ive had mine for a few years now and my joker card expired unused

Spadger, you're a cynic.

And rightly so.
I was told many moons ago by an old angler that most tackle in the shops is there to catch anglers not fish.

Nowt's changed.

Tackle manufacturers and tackle shops are both business's which are profit orientated, otherwise they would shut up shop. I agree that many of us get caught up in the latest must have product be it bait or tackle, the majority must have several items tucked away that were bought on a whim that have never seen the light of day!

I think that tackle manufacturers have become very cute with there marketing strategies.

I cant see any harm in it, were all individuals with are own minds and if you want to part with some of your hard earned cash then that's your choice. (However the other half may think differently!)

Well said B911, very true. Some people spend their money on fags and beer and some on their hobbies - some lucky beggars can afford al of these 'luxuries'. I have around £600 worth of pike lures which I don't get much time to use now and some of which have never got wet, including one 'special addition' (why?). Fishing can become a 'collecting' thing and a 'fashion' thing, so why shouldn't the shops cash in - that's what they are there for, to service our needs.

Aye, I've been 'caught' on quite a few occasions.

I seem unable to enter my local tackle shop for a pint of mixed without seeing something I can't live without.....

Default getting caught.

I am not naieve enough to think we don't get taken in by the shiny new pole floats or latest hook trends etc......
It's the big tackle companies that re-badge their poles, or repackage their latest catch more pellets that rack me off.
Bottom line is. It's a scam.
The top anglers catch more because they are better anglers than the average joe.
Not because they are using the latest spicy tuna and sperm whale flavoured pellet.
I remember many years ago being pegged next to big Kev Ashurst and he battered me out of sight.
Bottom line is. He'd have caught more out of a muddy puddle than i would have caught out of my peg. Why ? because he was a class angler.
You can't buy success, it comes with hard work and a sixth sense that some have but the majority don't.

Totally agree with that, Spadger. I'd be interested to know what real improvements have been made to poles and rods in the last 3 years or so, I suspect it ain't much....

And it's so true what you say about the really great anglers. The ones who win because they fish better rather than because they can afford to chuck in more bait than anyone else.....

Now where can I get hold of these Spicy Tuna and Sperm Whale flavoured pellets?

could'nt have put it better myself it is true top anglers are at the top of there game because like you say they have worked bloody hard to get there!!i have fished next to rob wootton and he has battered me simply because he does everything perfect i.e casting his feeder into a space the size of a ground bait bucket!taking that extra 10mins to plumb up right and also knowing how to feed his peg right! fair play to them they put in the time and effort and if they get thrown a quick buck here n there take it i would!!!it just annoys me that like oneabung said they have gone as far as they can with pole innovation so why keep releasing a pole every 6 months i know i should not say it but maver are a nightmare for it!!
