I have a pole (yes, I know you can't believe that!). It's a shakespere Flavia which, at the time I bought it many moons ago, was the dogs danglers for it's price range at around £350. It's light, relatively thin and pretty stiff. I wonder if I could land a carp of say 10lbs on it. I'd have to cut it back and re-elasticate it, but under strain, it should be capable, the same as a rod - it'll bend as the fish pulls, yes? Would be no good these days as a versatile match tool for one reason - it's less than 14m.
What happened to the day when you could feed with a catapult and gradually draw the fish closer until they were in easier reach, like the great waggler anglers of yesteryear?
So what do you reckon, should I attempt to use this pole on our matches at Cob House? It's long enough to fish most areas on all the pools..... I wonder. I've had it at least 15 years and used it about 10 times!! Might give it a go!
Mind you, then I have to get a roller - do I get a tripod, or one with 4 legs and rollers at the sides. Actually, I'll need 2 rollers, then a modified aquarium net to stick the front in when I break it down. Hang on, I only have one other top 2. Then I'll have to get one of those seat boxes with a chest of drawers built in and I'll have to make up at least 4 identical rigs for every eventuality in case I get broke and have to make one up on the bank, which will cost me at least 3 minutes! And I'll have to get tons of metal work to make a framework all around me so I don't have to bend to pick something up... and a barrow to transport it all, and a new car to fi it all in every time i fish a match......... i hope I can drive right up to my peg........ naahhhhh, I'll stick to me rod.
Wayeob.... spot on mate!
