are we the angler getting caught!!!
Everytime i pick up most angling magazines most of them are filled with ads about new tackle and bait comming out onto the market. Are we the anglers getting caught?what is the difference between a pole released in 2008 and a pole released 2009?Now i appreciate that pole innovation does change you only have to look back 15yrs but it just seems like most tackle companies seem to be releasing a new pole every 6 month!!!i have had my pole for nearly 8 yrs (spectron)everytime i go to angling shows and have ago on the pole alley with the lastest so called best pole on the market i struggle to see or feel the difference.i beleive we are just being to be sent into a frenzy to feed on the lastet bits of tackle.its the same with bait!does any other angler out there feel the same?i appreciate tackle company's have to make money what are your veiws?

when fishing companys bring out new poles theres hardly any differnce. the newer modle's of the pole might be slighty lighter and stiffer, which is not worth the extra £200+ or so, usally when a new poles comes out the quote words like tethlon joints, sun relfecting carbon and non stick joints in the rain, these are all usefull.... but too be fair my pole works fine without them, if you look after your pole and know how to get the most out of it, you never need to upgrade it unless you want to get a longer/ lighter one.
and you are 100% right about hows its the anglers that get caught, most of the stuff does the same stuff so i go for the mid price ranged stuff.

Getting caaught.
Agree Waynebob.
I also have a spectron and have yet to pick up a pole to justify me shelling out 2+ grand.
Because thats what it will take to replace with one i consider its equal.
As for baits ? This really winds me up.
We are told that there are only a couple of pellet suppliers in the UK. But the vast amount of brands on the shelf, would indicate otherwise.
The angling times these days is awash with top anglers advocating this and that and trying to brainwash you into buying a certain brand of pellet.
It can't cut both ways. Can it ?
The recent decision to allow all brands on the gold valley complex also got me thinking.
It wouldn't have anything to do with a certain Mr Raison signing a contract to use a certain brand of pellet would it ?
Call me a synic ( go on, someone will). But why the sudden change after all these years.
I'm not convinced by his reasons.

The reason most poles that come out now are similar or no better than their forebears is that the limit has been reached in pole technology after all nobody is changing the material they are made of its just which grade of carbon they choose.
As for baits you are bang on - the latest this and that.... alot depends what is going into a particular water and thats what the fish prefer - the rest of it is just fancy packaging and marketing hype - the best baits and additives can be bought in the supermarket and not the tackleshop anyway!

it makes my blood boil spadger
i agree with your angling times statement its becomming the equivlent of girls mag gossip or whatever they call it. girl buys mag sees kate moss sporting a new design of cosmetic that hides this n that girl rushes up the town on friday after payday and spends a fortune on a cosmetic product that cost pennies to make!!anglers are falling for the same trick top angler features the next M...r pole and says its the best thing since sliced bread but in fact all thats been changed is the graphics!!

Spot on lads!
The media is just full of hype surrounding poles and baits. As Simon pointed out, its all just different grades of carbon, so no Revolution has taken place! I still use a Tourney X for all my silver fish work and thats 15 years old if its a day, and I love it!
Is Sensas corn better than Aldi ir Lidl? I reckon not!
The stars' will stick their name / mug on anything for a quick buck, just dont be taken in by it.
Great thread Wayne

i totally agree with you spadger, i recently went to gold on a cub match (middle) and i was totally surprised to see that "The AlmightY" had lifted his pellet ban and not before time as his pellets were absolutely rank, but i wondered why the sudden change, now i know why, he is lifting dough from another company.
cheers

I have a pole that is about 14 years old is 14.5mts but at that it is garbage at 13mts its a lot better at 11mts I would put it up against any of todays poles it is fast ,very responsive and very well balanced ( weight has nothing to do with how long you can fish with it and at what length it is all down to the balance of the pole) it is a out and out silver fish pole that would i am in no doubt would tame a the odd carp .
the pole is a Tri-Cast MX 620,and the good thing is that in another 20 years time I will still be able to get spares for it not like most of todays poles that after 3/.4 years you get the reply from the tackle shop "sorry cannot get the spares as the YOUR pole is now obsolete "
