Hey,

Different venues vary at what length feed, but usally if fish are feeding shallow then you should be able to close in, i know some venues where the come on the top 2/3 shallow.

Most venues i fish sallow i usually fish 10 m and beyond, as you say you are comfortable fishing 10/11 this is what you should do as you allways need to be comfortable while fishing,

I would start at around 10m pinging a few pellets 2 or 3 at a time at the same time lifting and laying your rig in the water, you ae atempting to get a natrual fall of you bailt as you ping the other pellets out.

When you start catching you may have to follow the fish out as they get wise to you fishing this is when you you go to 11, i am comfortable fishing my pole all the way to 16m (as i would expect for money it cost) if the fish are feeding past where you are comfortable holding the pole you could always take the pellet wag method.

I usally start around half depth and keep adjust up or down until i get bites and when fish are feeding in a frenzy you can go as far as fishing aroung 6 inches deep, use a small stem float woth the shot bulked under the float and non down the line, this will help with noise when slapping your rig on the water.

Maver laford have some DVD's for sale showing some good anglers catching F1s shallow if you can get your hands on some.

You say you cant hold youre pole cmfortable at 16mtrs is that cos it,s too heavy if so have you thought of bying a bump bar to go on youre seat box as this would help you.Even if you didn,t fis the full 16 mtrs it would helpAs for fishing shallow try caster as well, when fishing caster shallow throw 2 or 3 in around your float every 30 to 40 seconds this should bring a better class of fish.

its not too heavy its just when fishing at 16m it tends to pick up the wind causing the bait presentation to be poor

When pleasure fishing you can catch quite close in at 8 - 10 mtrs its when under match conditions and there is a lot of noise on the bank and every one is fishing up in the water that you have to fish further out.

hi mate

if you are gonna be fishing shallow at 16m then you need to make sure you are comfortable on your peg!!
get your box levelled right and make sure everything is to hand.
if your comfortable on your box then you will find fishing at 16m alot easier!
as for the wind its always gonna be an issue unless conditions are perfect when you fish at 16
i fished a match 4 weeks ago where the only place i could get a bite was at 16m tight across to reeds fishing 6" deep and conditions were awefull but i stook it out and came second the lad who won was doing the same all the other anglers gave up as they couldnt stick it out.
just keep practicing mate

If the wind is being such a problem (only allowing you to fish at 8-11m), perhaps it is time to swap to the pellet waggler? Choosing the right method to suit the conditions is usually the key to having a good day.
