Default Advice Please

I have just started fishing in my local canal over the half term holiday, (yes, i am only 16) bought a fishing pole and a ready made rig and used sweetcorn and luncheon meat. i sat for 3 hours, being patient which i believe is one of the pillars of fishing? and did not get a bite . i was going to use maggots but have no local access to them. i was wondering whether it was the wrong time of year - although i have been informed that it's not and if anyone has any good baits, or general advice.

Thanks in advance,
Jason W.

This time of year is not really ideal to fish luncheon meat/ corn on canals you need to fish as light as possible 0.10/0.11 line and hooks as small as 24, floro pinkies squatts and chopped worms should be your baits. If its really cold and the canal clear bread punch and liquidised bread is a good bait. If you look elsewere on this site there is some good advise on these types of fishin. Stick with it with a few pointers you will catch

hi jay and welcome to the site.. this time of yr you want to start off feeding as little and often but very little like 3 sweetcorn pieces. if you can get some micro pellets that's a good feed that works well with sweetcorn. using toss pot put some micro pellets in with 3 sweetcorn pieces on top of that. feed that in then after that just feed micro in via toss pot but not every put out see how it go's. if the fish start to feed still keep it the same becases if you up the feed to fast you can put them off feed or they will back off.. if it is going well then you have go it right (oh forgot! every 5 or 6 put out just put 3 more corn in) hope this give you some help not knowing how deep you were fishing or what the conditions were on the day it hard to say were it was going wrong it could have been that the fish were not there at all and it was not you it is hard this time of yr we all get them days ..
