You could always try the River Don in Sheffield. They can be caught in the city centre - free fishing.
Can be had from the Wicker down to Stephenson road bridge, along with some big (4lb) chub.

Scunny if you do fish the Don in Sheffield the best advice I can give is to follow the five weirs walk. This will take you along the best stretches to bag a grayling.

Hi Scunny, I don't know how well you know Sheffield.
My advice would be to park on Warren Street (S4) just off Attercliffe Road. There is an entrance to the five weirs walk at the top of this road, from here you can walk towards Meadowhall shopping centre. Follow the river downstream, there are loads of pegs, my advice would be to take a roving approach although I have caught many a grayling from the pool above the first weir at the back of Chesterton Engineering.
The river on this section is streamy, shallow and reasonably quick flowing towards Stevenson road the river tends to deepen and hold more chub.
