Default fishing up in water

any tips for hitting bites fishing up in water.species are skimmers, crucians and carp/f1s.baits im using are pellets and small cubes of meat.anglers fishing matches are getting 30-40lb up in water on pellet and meat and while im doing well fishing it differently, can only seem to hit about 1 in 20 bites up in water.its also very frustrating having to change the pellet every missed bite, changing to maggot or caster results in also missing bites and smaller fish when i hit 1

over shot your float & suspend it just to the surface, use as a bolt rig.
I'm sure there's better info to be had from better anglers than me, probably why I don't frame as often as I ought.

i used to just keep feeding until elastic came out, knew they were on then, try using gammon on hook as its tougher an stays on, pellet wise band it or use S pellets they'll stay on after several strikes if you do need to fish caster try using the head of a worm instead

try using a short line between float and pole 6 inch if wind allows then have several rigs say 6 inch deep 12inch 18 inch etc and see which one is most succesful. also you can try hair rigging your pellet to see if this improves results. worm head is another good alternative when fishing caster as mentioned. also presentation...the missed bites may well be the fish ejecting the bait rather then when taking it in carp are good at this when suspending a bait in front of them. i prefer to keep working the rig constantly once it has settled up count to 5 then feed and drop the rig in again sometimes you can only get hittable bites when you present a falling bait.also mess around with your shotting it can often be best just shoved under the float.up in the water floats i prefer are drennan casters....easy to see take little shot and offer little resistance.
