Default Floating pole venues - can it be beaten?

I am going to a venue this week where they all fish floating pole and catch 100Lb weights of F1's .. to be honest I really dont like the floating pole as I think it removes alot of the skill and also I get bored very quickly when all you are doing is firing pellet and waiting for the pole tip to yank round...

Do you think this method can be beaten by fishing conventionally or tapping or anything else??

I fished a venue near you cannot remember the name but it was like a doughnut in shape, floating pole was the method and every one fished it for the opposition (team event).

We all fished conventionally with a float. The result was strange. We got battered in some sections but held our own on a lot of the others including the top weight on the day, new venue record. However we did not fish into the rat holes like the floater boys, instead fishing down the far shelf and making sure we feed down the shelf via toss pots, definately not catapults. By fishing tight we managed to keep the opposition in check until the home event.

i think it can be beaten because you still have to get your feeding right and depth of presentation. this is where 'floaters' who think all they have to do is lay the pole on and fire bait get beat. plus bring into the equation how efficient they are at playing and landing fish quickly etc so you always have a chance.....go teach em a lesson simon.

It probably depends on the weather conditions. If it goes cold and rains you will compete with conventional tactics. If its a flat calm warm sunny and dry I think you will struggle to beat them, assuming the stock density is sufficient for them to catch almost instantly.
The other way to beat them is by catching lumps out the margin.....if there are any.

Yes there are some lumps apparently but I am obviously presuming they will feed for lumps as well!

I just cant bring myself to be seen floating my Airity! I think I would rather get beaten by 50Lb and have a nice days fishing than lower myself to floating pole, don't know if anyone else feels the same!

Its true...even someone like myself who sometimes uses floating pole can admit its a poor substitute for putting the effort in.
If your after the money and cant see yourself outdoing the F1 boys then why not do the opposite and fish for the lumps anyway you can. It would be great if you could frame and in the process enjoy the days fishing.
Good luck Simon.

try fishing 4 inches deep using a blob also lightly tapping your pole tip on the water should allow you to cut down on the feeding ive seen this method work well when fishing shallow for f1s

I hate the floating pole, its so crude not much skill in it!!!!! I think fishing close in to hand can beat the floating pole if you get them on the go.

If it does not happen straight away dont panic, when they come in you could beat them with the better fish.

I think everything depends on the day and circumstances. Sometimes conditions make it hard to hold a pole i.e if its really windy. Ive floated but only on a couple of occassions when this has been the case. I prefer to hold it when fishing shallow. Using a float as an indicator its easier to tell what level the fish are feeding at in the water. Plus you can work the full depth of the water you are fishing. Fishing the floating pole you are fishing at a set depth.
