Question Plumbing depth

Is there a quick, easy, surefire way of plumbing the depth when pole fishing? Are there any devices can that help speed up the process.

Try a 2 pence piece with a bit of cork stuck in the middle, for plumbing up it doesn't sink into the silt so easy.

Use a suitable/heavy enough plummet for the bottom of the venue i.e. gravel or silt.
Search out the swim for holes, snags and features (this is a must).
Find the dead depth of your chosen swim (see pic below) and then mark up against your pole like craig said above.

So now when you are fishing you can alter the depth and always have guide to refer to.

Ive also seen anglers plumbing so there's just a little dimple on the surface when pellet fishing, so in the picture if you had a long bristled float like a Kc carpa chimp n you dotted your float right down you would probably be 1cm over depth wouldn't this have problems on registering on the float especially with f1's?

I cant see F1's giving you problems seeing bites, but know of a few anglers who dot down in the winter when using squatt or pinkie. The pic above is only a guide for Jazzman to refer to, and the principle is the same for any float.
