Young Angler - hemp many be hard to hook (there are easy ways) but try to fish on the hook what you are feeding as your results will improve - its only the red letter days when they will eat anything that you will get away with anything else on the hook.

If you want the hemp to stay on the hook then try this way(it should be done on the comfort of your home and not on the bank as can be time consuming)

When you have cooked your hemp, separate some into a small container(now the fun bit).
Get a needle, pick up a piece of hemp, and push the needle through the flat end(bit where it would be on the plant), do this gently as you only need to make a small hole(there is a bit that will push out).
Once this is done, all you have to do come the day, put your hook through the hole, you can even catch a few fish on one piece.

Just be careful making the hole, i prefer to use a paper clip that has been straightened out as found this is better than a needle.

Best hook bait to use with hemp is hemp, it's just as easy to hook as any alternatives. First inspect a grain of hemp, you'll see a small dent at the top of the grain where it's attached to the plant, pick out a grain that's not fully split, place a grain between thumb and finger, have your thumb nail on the dent, squeeze gently to open the split to the top of the grain push in the shank of the hook leaving the point exposed. It's far easier than I've made it sound but I've tryed my best, just try it I'm sure you'll manage.
