If your doing it for the money, then these days you have to try and make it a bit more unique than other venues in the area. Here in the Midlands there are thousands of day ticket venues. Commerical anglers are now so spread that most of the open match attendances are only 20 - 25 max. So club bookings would be the biggest money spinner. Most club anglers want bites and to catch a few fish, there not 100lb + weight driven like the open guys. So I would go down the mixed fishery route ( F1's, Carp, Skimmers, Tench and of course the in fish Barbel). To make it a bit more unique you could try things like a few albino grass crap, golden tench and like what some anglers have said Ide ( they do live longer than 5 years ). My mate has kept a golden orfe in his pond for 20 years, there basically the same fish as ide. Good luck with the venture, and one day I hope to follow the same route with owning my own fishery. ( Although there is twice as much money in carp farming).

Thanks for all the advice chaps, I am still pondering the exact mix of fish to introduce - I used to fish a venue down south that had loads of carp and also chub in it - the good thing was that the chub fed all year round and tended to be in a different area of the lake to the carp - obviously it is going to be impossible to produce a really fair venue but this has to be one of the considerations. I do want people to be able to get bites all year round and keep the numbers of club bookings up as I think this is the main business in the Doncaster area as there are 100's of little clubs - I am not really going to be catering for the open match lads with massive weights until I dig the next phase of the venue, the first lake has to be done perfectly and thats what I am looking for the advice on.
Baz where were you fishing then for that 30lb of roach and skimmers?

If an island went into a 2.5 acre lake it shouldn't be within pole range though mate.

unless every peg has access to it with a pole, would be a HUGE island but in the end the fish are gonna go where they want to go,humans can't make an even matchfishing venue as hundreds have tried
