What sort of timescale have you estimated it will take to get this fishery up and running?
Where will it be (geographically).

Hello,
Without sounding boring i think it comes down to supply and demand. In the last 10 years or more commercials have become the normal thing aswell as the big attraction. Who wants to catch 20lb of roach when you can catch 200lb of carp. I am only 28 and started fishing when i was about 11. Commercials where new then and i don't think i actually fished one until i was about 15. Infact i remember the first ever one, it was a place called Bradshaw in Bolton on lake number 4. At the time the carp were in the 2-4 oz bracket and you were winning with 30lb or so, today this weight has gone well up. Does anyone reading this think that like with many things economic, diminishing returns will occur, by this i mean people will eventually get sick of carp fishing and return back to the silver fisheries.

I think that is already happening to an extent chap. I am running a silver fish series around Doncaster this winter and it already is getting lots of interest.

Nice write up Simon. I have also built a hatherie here at Barston. With such a large lake, and with the threat of KHV, i decided i needed to be self sufficiant. I started over a year ago, but this is my first succesfull year, i have spawned 10 or so carp, and have built 8 new fry pools. I have just done a feature too for next months (August) Matchfishing mag, have a look.

Hi,

At what age or size do carp start to breed on their own? I love to fish for silver fish matches and takes a lot of knowlege to become good at it so for that reasons fishing for silvers will always be around,it may slump for a while but people will always go back.

As for carp fishing,it is only going to get bigger and bigger, there is just something about seen a 14 elastic stretch to its last or the scream of a drag on a reel thats makes carp fishing so much fun.

Cheers
Brendan
