carp rods
Hi everyone,
Could any of you carpmen/women give me some advice please, I am just taking up fishing and need to know which of the following rods would be best for me to use; I am stuck between getting a pair of Chub Outkast carp rods 3Ibs test or a pair of the Fox Warrior xt.
Also I was thinking of getting a pair of Fox Statos fs baitfeeders 10000 would these be okay used with the rods i have mentioned.
thanks in advance for any help

If you are just taking up fishing, why not start fishing for somthing other than just carp. Most of the more successful carp anglers started out fishing for all the other types of fish. This will give you a greater understanding of the sport. I have seen many people start off fishing for carp only to struggle with basic things like fish handling when they finally bank a fish, its better to get used to handling smaller fish like bream, tench, roach and the like.

Hi,
I Used To Run A Tackle Shop And I Can Say That The Chub Rods Are Good Starter Rods, however I Havent Had A Lot To Do With The Fox Ones, the Reels Are Getting A Mixed Response.
Your Best Idea Would Be To Get On The Net And Get Some Advice, explain Your Situation And As Much Details Type Of Venue, etc, I Would Suggest Either Tackle Box In Kent (the One Lee Jackson Works In),or Leslies Of Luton -both Offer Excellent Service And Advice.
Also A Good Idea Would Be To Get Lee Jacksons Book On Starting Carp Fishing As This Gives Good Advice On The Basics.
Please Be Careful With Some Shops Though As They Do Try To Rip Begineers Off.

My advice if you have your heart set on carp fishing is to buy second hand gear there are some bargains to be had on various forums and tackle trader that way you get better quality stuff at the prices you would pay for new lower quality gear most of my gear is 2nd hand and its been like new the vast majority of anglers take care of their kit so it is sometimes like buying new anyway
Ps stay away from the fox reels Shimano make reels you wouldnt go wrong with some 6010gt or similar depending on how big the waters are that you intend to fish

I have both Shimano Baitrunners and Fox Stratos 7000 series, and the Fox reels are every bit as good as the Shimanos. I havent particularly looked after them well, they look like theyve been buried in mud for 10 years and they are still as smooth as the first day out of the box. Depending on what sort of waters you are going to fish consider going smaller, the big pit reels are a bit pointless if you are oging to be fishing small waters.
as for rods get the best you can and look at 2nd hand, if you get into it i strongly suspect you will end up wanting to replace cheaper new rods very quickly and end up spending more money than getting better ones first time round. Alternatively see if Shimano are still doing that carp rod and reel deal for £99.99

Hi everyone,
sorry i havn't answered before now been very busy doing chores for her indoors, to clear things up I should have said that i have fished canals for the last 30 years; but now I want to give it a go fishing lakes and other places for carp.
Anyway I have now decided to get a pair of chub rods with a pair of Shimano GTE C Baitrunner Reels Ive decided on the shimano reels mainly because i have been using a shimano gtx2200speed master for twenty odd years or more and I have never had any bother with it infact it's still as good as when i got it.
thanks for all the advice anyway.
regards bph1 (mike)

Mike, where you located mate.
I managed to get Greys Prodigy 2 3/4 tc for £60 brand spanking from Carpin Capers in Northampton.
If you're not that far away I'd say give them a call and see what they can do for you i'm sure they'll do you a good deal especially ifyou're after reels as well
