have a look in a car shop for spray paint, theres one that covers most surfaces including carbon. dont sand it first though.

i have met people who have painted it on with a brush also. the spray job with a couple of layers always loooked better and did not chip of as much.

it is based on the theory that it blends the pole in with the sky making it less obvious to fish. a bit like the underside of predators like the heron or gulls.

mmmmn thought we did this to death...but maybe not, you may as well paint them poker bloody dot pink ...all we can see from the bottom up is a silhouette and the color of a silhouette against a sky is black....i am convinced of this.and pretty sure all the pole manufactures are as well .But it is a free world and if you want go paint them, spray them or dip them your choice.as for birds being gray they are still a silhouette against the sky.

by the by this is my opinion i am not trying to force it on any one

larry i too have to agree that no matter what colour you paint it the silhouette is black.

but 90 % of match fishing is confidence, if this gives any body more confidence then fair enough.

Larry is correct they see the outline or silloette, There was a well known angler down here Mick Burrell his name he sanded his pole down from brand new and painted it matt black to reduce the possibility of flashing from the sun, that reflection you get from high gloss poles.

wether it worked or not who knows, but if you think it works then hey give it a shot

Ha ha, thats what we used to do back in the 60's and 70's. I still use my 13ft Abu Match Rod on rivers and it still has the matt black on it as good as the day it was sprayed. We used to take the rings off, spray the rod and rewhip the rings back on. Those were the days when us keen ones used to make 95% of all our river floats as well. Still got some and they are just as good as the modern stuff!
