bankstick, I got to say you are quite right.
If one car suited everyone there would be no need for all the car makers, & likewise with poles.
All we can do is give our own personal choices and let people know which ones are really not worth bothering with in our opinion.
Thing is, as were all anglers and probably have been for some time, then we should know the difference between plain bad & not quite right for us but still a good pole.
So if it was me wanting to buy a new pole I'd take the view that any recomendations are worth checking out and any that have more than two bad write ups I'd forget about. Saying that I think I'd still want to have a look at the rubbish ones to compare against the good ones.

what ever you do dont buy a maver !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! buy far the best pole on the market in your price is the preston gxr2000 super pole i have got the preston gis 12 absolute and the only thing between them is that the 12 is a bit stiffer at 16m.When you buy a gis pole all the top kits fit all the other gis poles and the spares are cheap i had a maver n47 befor the 12 and i broke a number 7 and it cost me £280 i would never have a maver pole again
