I am going to try and go "back to my roots" and equip myself with CP's instead of fixed spool reels. No problem with casting if you can 'quick release' the drum. They need to be in good working order and not cost a bomb!

depending on how you define not costing a bomb, the okuma ones are well worth a look. The sheffield if you dotn want a lineguard, or if they are too pricey the aventas

I'm with milo go for the aventa pro, it's a fantastic reel for the money. Better to spend £80ish than buy a cheap/ secondhand duffer for £50. Alternatively try the leeds or the shakesepeare lincoln made by alvey if you want a sidecaster.
