Hi Andy

I think what happens during the winter is that Rolf allows different methods because a lot of pegs don't produce using the pole. When it warms up, when we'll be there, it will be pole only. With the specie boys, he allows them a days fishing using their tactics.
What we will all need to get used to is things like weighing in any fish over 8lbs. That's stopping fishing, taking the fish to the weigh station, then writing down the weight, getting it checked by some one, then starting again.
Also using Rolfs pellets for feed, there is a good article on the Rolf website by John Bennett on how to prepare them.
Rolf may have some strange ideas but they are only to look after his fish and this is a great venue.

Every year for at least 4 years (that i know of) Rolf during the winter allows rod and line and a small amount of corn from time to time to allow anglers the chance to catch, because as others have said during winter it fishes differently to the Summer as alot of the fish move past the max 16mtr pole line.

When we are there for this match it WILL BE POLE ONLY without any doubt.

Regards the info on Rolfs reference the specimen anglers thats old hat as they are no longer on there due to their actions when hooking and playing fish.

Rolf will make sure that EVERYONE KNOWS THE RULES BEFORE the draw is made with regards to baits allowed, tactics and fish wealthfare.

For those that are still concerned it's simple really as all that will be needed for the day is a mix of any of the following.

Bait
Hooker Pellets (any)
Feed Pellet (supplied by Rolf)
Bread
1 tin of meat (hook bait only)
Paste
Worm
Maggot

Gear
minimum 2 keepnets (3 if silvers are to be counted)
pole with soft set elastic (max 16mtr)

And most importantly ENJOY THE DAY..

Royst,

It's pretty much what ever paste you have confidence in.

Same time last year i caught on GOT Paste, Rolfs Pellets made into Paste and Swimstim Paste. (dont try using catmeat made into a paste though as if Rolf sniffs it you'll get a red card) and dont forget he always walks around with his camera chattering.

Leetwin,

You can waste your time going for the bit's means more proper fish for me.

To be honest thats upto Neil to agree with Rolf before hand but if silvers are allowed then you will need at least 3 keepnets and if anyone is found with a silver mixed with carp you wont be weighed in.

I know in the matches that i run there i allow silvers but they must be in a seperate net and even then decent sized non carp have to be weighed and returned and i've never had any complaints from Rolf or the anglers.

Andy,

As both Fred and Malc have stated it will be pole only when we go. During the winter he allows you to fish the waggler, feeder etc. Due to the fish moving out of range.

Malc, you said that the elastic has to be soft set but what strength of elastic can you use and what do you use for up in the water and on the deck.

I'll probably have to change a few top kits befor the match.

Cheers steve

Steve,

Red Hydro is the norm at that time of year. I know his website says differently but he will allow it as long as there is plenty of elastic coming out of the pole when playing fish. I would say you need about 3ft of elastic showing most of the time. And don't be surprised if you have to stand up to land the fish. What he does not tolerate is tight elastics which do not come out and bullying of his fish.
