So thats ok then, he is hardly likely to say anything different is he, after all he wants you to turn up and fish, the fact is there is a problem in the Midlands that is getting worse not better, and up to yet no one can put a definitve answer to what is causing it, in some instances pools have been closed and I understand at another carp are not being weighed in.

having read these posts , cani just add a few words please
there seems to be a lot of rumours going round about loads of differant places about fish deaths and lakes being closed ,
the way i see this is , unless you know for sure 100%, then no one should be speading rumours , the only way to find out is go and see , early in the morning prob be best before anyone can clean and said deaths away , if any
fishing has been slow all over the place of late ,no one can seem to put a finger on it as you say, my bet has to be the weather and lackof oxegen levels , id be very intrested in other folks ideas
dont let the rumour machine close these places down ,

One theory is that its to do with spawning. We had a few days of sun which sent the carp into spawning mode again, followed by torrential rain. This dropped the water temperature and the carp were unable to get rid of the spawn. If they cant get rid, then they die. That is why most fish deaths appear to be the big mature carp.If the theory is correct then all the male carp should be ok?Also can F1's breed. If they are sterile then they would be spared as well. But as kev allen has said its a bit unfair on fishery owners, when a few fish deaths becomes thousands by the time rumours fly around.Nigel from barston had to reply to the rumours concerning his fishery, and he put the record straight.Telling it as it really is,which was no where near any of the rumours. So i think we have to wait untill the EA get their finger out and tell us whats wrong. In the meantime we must show our support to the fisheries,if they have to close then where will we go then?
Lets keep on fishing.

So you believe that KhV does not exist, and that it is something to do with fish not spawning possibly, its strange that another 2 fisheries have had fish movement orders placed upon them today and confirmed as having KhV. One of those fisheries is in the Midlands the other in Oxfordshire.
I will concede that Nigel as a responsible fishery owner took the correct action and had fish submitted for testing, hopefully the test will or have been proven to be negative, I actually contaced Nigel to alert him to the comments that were being made on this site, which gave him the chance to reply.
KhV is a disease that affects carp F1s are a carp so it can not be ruled out that they will not be effected, it is also known to kill anything from 50% to 95% of carp stocks in an affected water. It is also a known fact that the first to show signs or die are the mature fish. There is no cure for KhV and erradication from a water can only come about if it is drained down and left for a long period of time, simply restocking is not an answer.

fur and feather
Well it was going to happen soon. Has fishery owners try to get more anglers to there waters by over stocking and trying to get the highest match weights.I mean, 2 matches a day on some venues as got to cause problems.
I think carp in commercials have had their day, lets have more silvers , chub ,bream roach etc.
Anglers have also got to learn to use net dips andf i think fishery owners should enforce it , even if its unpopular, watching that we do dip our nets.
I wonder if it has something to do with all the baits going in, i mean catmeat and tuna , remember mad cow disease. Are we feeding something that contains a bug?

So you believe that KhV does not exist
dont think anyone is saying that,
all i was saying is that its not fair on the owners to take all the rumours and poeple shouldnt comment if they dont know for certain , same in life in general thats how rumours spread and grow beyond believe
i wasnt trying to upset the apple cart in any way
as for net dips totally agree , it needs be enforced , no dipping no fishing simple as that

Im a member of packington fisheries,as you know its in the midlands. They had their fish checked as some were dying. They have supposedly lost a significant proportion of their carp. They have banned carp in matches, and silvers make up the weights. We were told that the fish have double spawned, and havent been able to release the spawn.Nothing was mentioned about KHV,and to be fair to packington they didnt hide the fact that they had problems.I do believe KHV exists, but wouldnt any infected fisheries have to close? As i said, the double spawning was the reason given by the scientists that examined the complex, maybe its the wrong theory, but if it is KHV then why isnt the fishery shut.My son fished their on sunday, and it was business as usual.By the way i didnt say the problem is to do with double spawning,i have mearly passed on information given to me.I dont know what the problem is,but hope nature sorts it self out,it normally does.

Maybe the commercials have had there day! Lets all get back on the rivers the more bait going in the better the fishing should be.The river Mersey at Warrington is fishing well with matches on there now sundays and wednesdays and can only get better the more that fish it.
