Another vote for Larford match lake, usually a few bites to be had there even if it's freezing.

This problem will always exist whilst fishery owners feel pressurised to cram more and more carp so people can catch 100lb plus bags of fish week in week out, i am affraid if lakes and pools were meant to be heavily stocked like this then nature would have already done it, it is not natural to cram 2-3000 fish in a acre or so pool and expect everything to be healthy.Personally i think it borders on cruelty to the fish at times, if you put 2-3000 dogs in a 1 acre pen you would be locked up for it. Why have people become obsessed with bloody carp and huge weights!
Is it the fishery owners fault really or the majority of todays anglers that see carp - commercial venues as the be and end all of fishing that has brought so many problems and in lots of cases avoidable deaths and huge financial loses to many people. Yes lots of people may say commercial fisheries saved the tackle trade retailers, but who is going to save commercial fishery owners if they loose everything just so people can brag about catching 200lb of f1's in 4 hours, who cares weight is relative to the venue, 10lb on a canal is in general a great weight. I am affraid you cannot and will not beat mother nature.
Maybe i am a bit old school but personally catching carp all day bores the pants of me, but if people enjoy it then fine but you may have to accept that stress and disease will always follow many commercial venues.
If i had to choose a venue i would pick a canal , Mr Teapots or Mr Woodhouse's i know people wont want to go and thats ok its just my choice.

If it's on Dec 2nd I'd love to fish on the canal. Have just got out of hospital and find venue/date not yet decided!

Do you think it is right to fish our fur and feather, on a water known to have KHV, shouldnt we be doing our bit in trying to contain it. Fishing is a hobby all of us are connected with, yet by fishing these infected pools, we are the ones spreading this terrible disease. I hope all of you will have the common sense to change the venue to an uninfected water.

Brian invited us to PM him to suggest alternative "suitable" venues!

I have delayed booking anywhere up whilst this threat is on us, in fairness KVH could be present in almost every fishery that has had fresh stockings of carp within the last few years, as it can lay dormant for years and only break out given the right conditions, my guess is that we have all fished a water that has KHV and selecting another water does not guarantee that we wont be transfering the virus. Most important is the need to understand that by drying nets and equiptment between trips significantly reduces the risk of transfering the virus.
I am quite happy to look at other venues, the eventual chosen venue will need the following, 1 a cafe that does a good breakfast essential for the lads who are travelling a distance. 2 reasonable access to the pegs e.g no long walks. 3 the possability of us all catching a few pounds of fish 4 Some where to present the prizes after the match note some venues shut up their cafes early afternoon especially in winter. 5 Be within a reasonable distance of Birmingham.
