If everyone agrees we can make it a silverfish only match to avoid confusion. Any carp caught to count as 1lb. All other fish count as normal.

Willowgarth is two small lakes which hold up 15 anglers on each.

The front lake is slightly deeper than the back at 5ft, the back lake is about 4ft deep. Both lakes are stuffed with roach and hybrids although the hybrids are harder to catch but if you get them coming then they average 1lb and you can do a good weight of them.

There are also some very big perch, one in a match last year was over 3lb and you can get them coming at 12oz - 1.5lb regular if they are in front of you.

Its a simple venue and to be honest where most people go wrong is by NOT feeding regular enough. You want maggot or caster as both work.

The only thing with these lakes is some days they seem coloured and some days they are gin clear or the front will have colour and the back not or the other way round!!! Its strange to be honest! But what you tend to find is if there is a bit of colour then you can catch shorter than if it is clear. Sometimes you can catch well on 4M to hand but its going to be cold so probably you will have to fish 6M+... the front lake you tend to have to fish your main line at 11 -13M and the back lake 4 - 8M ....

You want some light rigs like 0.2 - 0.3g for on the drop and perhaps an up in the water rig too. The fish are not hook shy so you don't need to scale right down - something like 0.08 to 20 is fine enough.

The fish there DO NOT like groundbait - you have been warned!!!

Thats everything folks!!!!

Any more takers for this match?????

If you come out of Bentley on the A19 you pass turnings on the left to Carcroft Industrial Estate, then you look for a road on the right "Tilts hill Lane" should be signposted Arksey.... you go down that road about a mile and you go over a level crossing which then the road bends round sharp to the right. The entrance to the ponds is then 300 - 400 yards on the right hand side. There is a sign. If you come to a tee junction you have gone too far.

Might be two more if a club friend of mine works out how to register & post on the site/thread.... he's a good angler (well good compared to me .. might be average compared to some of you ) but it would seem a bit thick when it comes to computers.
I will see him in the morning, we have a match at Hallcroft. Might just take some fish out the freezer & chuck it in me net - see if anyone notices.... gonna be a cold un.

Anyway, he was keen when I mentioned it to him last week but I will know better tomorrow if he mentions it. Obviously if you get a full quota of anglers before I can confirm then we can't... but no harm done this end.

hey everyone, just been up to have a look at the venue, be warned, it is open to the wind. A few carpers were there but no one was catching (what do you expect from the biviy bragade at this time of year), anyway it looks very promising from a silverfish view, a good depth close in, plenty of underwater cabbages. One bloke i spoke to said he had 25lb in three hours last week. Water was a bit clear to about two foot down, lets hope we have no snow or hard frost next weekend. Anyway i have just ordered 3 kilo of 25mm pellets, 2 kilo of method groundbait and an armarda of bait boats, who says northern anglers can't fish. See you all next saterday.
