It's nice to see an interest just from this site. I was thinking of organising something for the end of next season/the 'close season' after all the AT winter leagues and team commitments were out of the way. I'll spread the word during this years team matches and get a feel for 'team versus individual' series. Maybe smaller teams of five or six with individual prizes at the end for the top five? That way the bigger teams could enter a couple of teams but it won't restrict those who can't muster up a full team of 12.
Thanks for your support Rich. I would take you up on a bit of help as you are more in the know with the anglers and venues further up the canal. And Steve, I remember that Match fishing feature with the 'younger' Rich from years ago. I think he was sat opposite a barge (probably a right flier!) with a full head of black curly hair in a very 80's style (it looked like a perm from memory, sorry Rich)
I've got a feeling a small series could work well so I will persue the idea and keep in touch. God knows what I've let myself in for here but I have an inkling there's a demand for this, so lets make full use of a cracking venue where I challenge anyone to predict where the winner will come from (and how many commercials can you say that about!)

I can certainly help with getting it advertised, G. Think it might only need someone with the get up and go to organise it! Well volunteered.

Smaller teams would be good, I would think I could only get four or five from Devon who would be interested, but like you said; if it's smaller teams, those with plenty of interest can enter more than one team.
Alternatively, if the consensus is bigger teams, I don't mind fishing for a team of 'bits and pieces', especially if there are individual prizes.

See you on the 'Spill...

G Man

Can I make a suggestion?

Why not run the first series on an individual basis. That way you may get a feel for how successful a team event will be. Personally I think there will be a fair bit of interest. Only snag with a team event is that coming straight after the WL and Commercial House its yet another series of entrance fees to find.

Why not just make it £20 to enter the series with optional pools on the day. An individual league should make it easier from an organisers point of view as well.

Can I also suggest that all matches are on the K&A. The Bridgwater & Taunton does not get many big matches on it since the demise of the Somerset Winter League. A lot of areas are now very weedy.

I’m sure that any Somerset lads who are into canal fishing won’t mind travelling.

I’d be happy to help out with organisation if necessary.

Hi Nick,
I agree with the £20 series entry (for top individuals payouts at the end), but you would have to make at least some of the match pools compulsory cos you have to cover things like peg fees to the relevant clubs on the day. Otherwise you chance there being nothing in the kitty for paying the match and section winners of each match.

sounds like a brilliant idea graham,as i wont be in the commercial house this year,as frys are not putting a team in,for the first time in many a year!! i think you will not find it hard to fill up,as most bristol and surrounding guys just love the canal.might even learn a thing or two from yourself mate!!!
