Just out of interest if you fancy a pleasure session in the area on the river the stretch of the salwarpe at hawford bridge has some very nice swims and good chub. Theres supposedly barbel in there but ive seen neither sight nor sound of them. upstream of the bridge on the opposite bank are very nice swims with nice glides, weedy sections and packed with heatures and if its not got a match on you normally get the pick of swim with not a soul around so its very good if you like to fish mobile.

It sounds like a pole and pellet/maggot venue? I would tend to start on deck with the pellet, is this the typical approach to the venue?

Yeah this time of year pellet would be my number 1 bait. There are loads of features to fish to most of the stockie carp are 1 - 3lb with loads of bigger carp as well. I would use sweetcorn as a change bait and down the sides. I would also be looking to fish up in the water about 2 1/2 feet to 3 feet deep. In some parts the pool's are over 12 foot deep. Start on the deck and see how it goes, have a good plumb round.

Thanks Ozzie, one last question, generally do the carp show up in the water in open water here? What sort of length would you attack the shallow rig at?
Are we talking red maggots as the attack on the shallow rig?

You will catch up in the water in open water 13m+ on the top and middle pool. The island is about 13 - 14.5m on the bottom pool. Pellet and caster I would use up in the water. Maggots when really cold. I havnt fished the place at all this year so only idea's.
