Default Priory Lakes Ruskington

This is my first season fishing after a 30+ year break so I'm still locating fishing places round Sleaford Lincs. Last Sunday junior and I thought we would get an early start after scoping a fishery on the net near Grantham, turns out to be a holiday site with no day fishing, so off to another site recommended by the local tackle shop (Dave's Peg Sleaford) got there to find a no kids rule. I can understand probs she may have had but it was a bit tight especially as he was supervised by me (a 50 year old kid)

Any way we went to the Priory lakes fishery in Ruskington nr Sleaford, best to access from the A153.

a two lake venue that we know has carp (commons and mirror), roach and tench, well thats what we caught.
there is a no bread and floating bates rule, probably due to the marauding flock of geese but they don't stay long in your swim.
pegs are a fiver for one rod and kids are free if they share peg.
loads of car parking too.

we had a great day and will be back this weekend

I mate i live in sleaford and use priory to practise paste and up in the water fishing lake 1 is a cracking venue but i wouldn't bother with lake 2 very hit and miss. Another venue just down the road from there is haverholme park this is full of big carp (in match terms) between 8lb and 20lb its a very good venue. If you need a few tips just let me know.

what sort of baits do well at haverholme? went there earlier this year but it was a duff session. Had a great day at Priory with Luncheon meat and red mags.
Learned about meat from a chap at Screddington lake, not a bad place to start at.

you mention lake two, is that the north or south lake? we were in the lake by the house.

any idea of what is in the priory size wise?

Hi mate i fished the open yesterday it was won from peg 1 pellet wag with 130lb second was peg 23 half by the tree half pellet wag for 61lb 6oz i was 3rd with 60lb 10oz on peg 11 fished to the left on pole with dusted meat and corn. the fish go to 25lb so use heavy gear and keep feeding. Most pleasure anglers feed once then don't feed until they have a fish so don't catch much the best advice is keep feeding.

At priory the lake near the house is lake 1, this is best fished with paste or pellet up in the water - keep feeding - the fish are coming on know and average 11/2 lb with fish to 8lb.

On the pellet wag i use a fast tip action shimano rod with 8lb main line and .18 hook length. On the inline method feeder i use a 11/13 diawa river feeder rod with 8lb main line and .18 hook length, on the pole i have a milo trojan with 18-20 hollo elastic with my rigs being .18 straight through if close enough i prefer my diawa margin pole with the same set up. I wil be fishing a match at haverholme on wednesday and will probably go either monday or tuesday to set some rigs up if you need any further info.
