Winter Fishing Near Walsall
Hi,
I want to do some fishing during the winter and was wondering if there are any venues near Walsall (west midlands) that will give me some good sport over the winter.
I fish rod and line and don't mid what the quarry is, just need some bites during the chilly months.

not sure lobworm just turn up and fish i pressume, their are some winter league matches on there, have a trip down there and speak to the ranger, or anyone fishing.
they may know dates. Heard caster and pinkies for roach and bream, and take a few worms / g.bait. lake quite deep in places.
As for the cuts liquidised bread / breadpunch, normally works well. again there are some matches fished along the town warf / rollingmill street sections.
if you want to go further try the Pelsall area give tk a pm he will no doubt help you, he runs a couple of stretches along that way for about a fiver a season, some nice fish along there.
there is a link on the venues section if you look there, with photo,s of the stretches.
see Cannock ext canal thread just under this one for contact details

The arboretum is fishing ok, as already said, but if you're gonna fish it head for the boathouse, chopped worm or caster on the pole or lob a small feeder out.
Rushall canal is brilliant, punch and liquidised bread if the waters clear will catch you plenty of roach, if there's some colour a little bit of groundbait with pinkie will catch you a lot of good roach. The "mile" stretch is good but I prefer heading the other way under the bridge onto the big bend.
Just a bit further afield Mill ride in Essington is capable of nets of quality roach that can rival those of sion farm, the first pool down the drive has some massive shoals of roach, head for the deeper pegs toward the end of the pool.
Caster fished on the deck usually brings the fish in, I fish this place quite often when I get a bit of free time and have had 60lb nets of roach in just a few hours. They were still coming up in the water a couple of weeks ago and I was catching just a few inches deep, but I would think that they'd but on the bottom now with the recent cold snaps.
All the canals around walsall are still fishing pretty good, if you don't fancy the "bits" sit the caster out for bigger roach and perch and the odd tench.
carl.

If i were you id head down reedswood (or as noda calls it beechdale pool). Its got some cracking roach, perch, skimmers and orfe in there which come out all year round. If the carp are feeding (pegs 1 and 2 are better for carp this time of the year) you'll still get some good carp.
Also you could think about baileys (swan pool ) bloxwich as this holds some cracking silvers plus pike into the 20's aswell as some cracking carp.
If you want free fishing then you could go on sneyd resor. This holds plenty of big silvers as its hardly fished.
Park lime pitts can also throw up some decent silvers
Populars cannock always fishes ok threw all 12 months of the year and carp can be caught no matter what the weather/ temps ect are plus the chub feed well in the colder months
