Red face absolute beginner

hello all,
just recently i woke up one morning after a dream about fishing.....random i know but i woke up and went fishing to a place where they provided everything. i caught a trout of about a pound or so and got the bug. so i went to the local fishing centre and bought a basic setup and toddled off for a full day. i stumbled my way around weighting my line and hooking up the float etc and bagged 16 fish, mainly little roach and a couple of perch (i think).
Basically i had great fun and feel i've missed out many precious years of this fantastic sport, i'm now 31 and hope to get as many tips as possible of you experienced anglers.
Please if you could, would anyone give me 5 basic tips in order of importance on how to catch anything toward 5 lb. remember i'm a total novice, thanks.

Default always willing to learn

hello everyone at talk angling, i have recently joined in the hope that i can learn more about my new apprentiship in coarse fishing since my retirment this year,i live in doncaster and fish around the area, and also have visited messingham sands a few times my main aim is to learn how to fish carp venues then progress hopefully onto some matches without being (pools fodder) so any help would be most welcomed,i would like to start fishing expander pellet 4mm but i am unsure about the float's i would need in windy conditions(15-20mph) and the shotting patern to use so any help or advice would be handy best regards peter.

Morning all. My name is Ken and I live in Portsmouth. I have been looking for a decent fishing forum for a while.
I retired fron the Army 3 years ago and since then I havnt done much in the way of match fishing.
I do have a small problem: I have 2 poles, 1) a rather old Browning Nickle Reflex 14.5 mt and 2), a 16.5 mt Trabucco world class super cup carp 1.
The problem is that I cannot, for the life of me, find an outlet for Trabucco as I need a new 5th section (like a prat I tried to lift the whol;e lenth by this section.
Can any of you help me. The Browning is fine for towing barges but the Trabucco gives me a bit more lenth and rigidity whilst also having the power should I happen to find the larger stamp.
Many thanks, Ken.
