Hi Catch, welcome to the site there are a few more who have the coaching badge on the site, dont think you will see any negative posts about coaching and your experiences will no doubt let you post some good replies to others questions.

Hi catch, I too have a level 2 coaching badge. I am also a member of allthingspiscatorial which is a great site for coaches if you haven't used it.

Welcome cowboy. I think you will find things have changed a lot in 20 years. I don't know Hallcroft but if you ask people on here, no doubt someone will help.

Hi everyone,
Nick from rainworth in Notts here, used to fish a bit but laid off it for a year or too due to bringing up the kids when my ex left, but back at it for the last year and trying to relearn all I have forgotton (never knew that I knew enough to forget anything). Biggest problem is I have got older and more decrepid and the tackle has got heavier, I used to be able to march for miles to get a good peg on the rivers and now I fish where I can park the car so obviously now its mainly the ponds I use (nice though on the couple of times in the last year when I have ventured onto a river and even bagged myself a nice barbel or two)
Hope none of you got blown away on the Barston match at the weekend?

Welcome mate. You're amongst good company in not venturing onto the rivers too often. TA matches have mainly been on commercials with a couple on the cut. Keep your eyes peeled and there's sure to be a match you could attend in the New Year! Have a good Xmas!!

I just bought an extra long rod and I think it might be a bit difficult for me to handle, has anyone got any advice, I've lost control of it a a couple of times and its fallen in the water, and I've had to get my hands wet by lifting it up again and starting again. I hate fishing with wet hands!

Are you keeping the butt resting underneath your forearm geoff? That way the forearm supports the weight of the rod and it shouldn't.

My long river rod has a brass weight on the butt to counterbalance it when using it at full length. If yours hasn't got one perhaps you could wrap some lead wire around the butt untill it is balanced against your reel
