Hello all.
I am hoping that one of you chaps may be able to help me please.
After 15 years carp angling, I want to return to general coarse angling and would like some suggestions on poles please.
I'm not after a carp type pole although may like to have the option for it to handle carp up to 10lbs with the correct top kit.
More interested in having a couple top 3 kits and about 13mtrs.
Can't go to top of the range but mid-priced.
Any suggestions lads??
Is there anyone who would be willing to exchange tips and advice as I get myself back into this on an e-mail basis or even me popping along to an Essex water to watch for an hour or three?? I make a lovel cuppa!!!

Thanks.

Mick.

Hi Mick welcome to the site, there should be no need to email any one as theres plenty of good anglers on here who will answer your questions.
So you are looking for a pole to handle fish up to 10lb and a limited budget my reccommendation would be a Shimano Technium available at around £200 spares top kits around £39 there is even an extension to take it to 14 1/2 metre at £69, An increase in budget opens you up to a lot more poles but as allways its best to at least have a play with one or two at the tackle shop see how they handle and how balanced they are.

Thanks for that mate.
Looks like a good idea and I could add spare top 3's etc.
Is there any others for around £500 that may be better?
Really looking for a pole that will mainly be used for silver fish, skimmers etc on canals and small stillwaters but would like the option to step up to fish of 5-10lbs when possible.
So top 3's and 4's are more important to me than power kits at the moment.

Thanks.
Mick.

I think once you have experienced catching carp up to 10lb on the pole you will find it hard going back to scratching for silvers, I did . So if I was you I would plump for a cheaper pole at first, then when you find out which way you want to go, pay a bit more for 1 which will be more suited to that

As a carp angler for the past 15 years, I want to seperate the two, well for some time anyway.
I used to be in a very succesful match team in the 80's and loved the pole and the bomb rod for what I could not reach with the pole. Thats what I'd like to start of with again, a pole and a good bomb/light feeder rod.
A waggler and stick rod will no doubt follow as the funds allow but will be quite happy on canals and lakes with the pole and bomb rod targeting bream, roach, tench etc.
So many changes since my match days though, 'toss-pots' bumb bars, foot plates?????

You are right there Larry, especially in the carp game......

So, what would be your recommendation one up from the Technium or is this that good to do me for some time???

Thanks lads.

my advice is without a doubt is Brian G is really on the ball with his tackle advice, i really can not comment i have made a conscious design to keep the poles i have and use them for carping i have just come of the canals after 10 years and i have 3 garbolino master aces 14.meters when they have disintegrated thats when i will upgrade untill then i will be sticking with what i have......

Mick have a look at this link theres others comments on the Technium
Best pole in price bracket 0-£500 RRP
I think you would have to be looking at around the £700 mark to significantly improve on the Technium or maybe the Garbolino Premier Legion at £499 that would give you a 16mtr pole that should be well fishable at 13mtr and even 14 1/2mtr might be a tad heavy at 16mtr though bear in mind that its a carp pole. As always its a bit down to personal choice and you cant beat having a play with one or two either at the tackle shop or another anglers whilst on the bank, the worst another angler will say is no.
