Default Wyrley & Essington Canal Pelsall

After a 13 years away from fishing i'm back and i can't wipe the grin off my face, today was one of my best days fishing ever. Was on the Wyrley & Essington Canal at Pelsall, season tickets cost £5 and available from Tony Kulik at tonykulik@hotmail.co.uk. What can i say but great day with 12 tench from 1&1/2lb to 3lb plus a net of roach and skimmers. Can't wait to get back. Thanks to the locals for help and much needed advice (it's allways welcome) and to Tony for taking some pics. Sorry for the chessy grin. P.S. is this the ugliest tench ever ?

I've seen some ugly fish mate, as a fish farmer. I have seen tench with a strange growth on the front of their heads like a little horn. I call 'em unicorn tench! I have seen barbel and carp with nothing more than an underslung tube for a mout..... and they have never seen a hook! We should start a website..... 'Freakyfish.co.uk'

Well done tinca phil - glad you had a few tugs........was it only 12 LOL - i thought you'd had 14 that net certainly took a bit of lifting out

Catch you on the bank again - tight lines
Even when I draw a half decent peg fate conspires against me...............

Default The only Happy Geordie in the West Midlands on Bank Holiday Monday

Big Thanks to TK for a very enjoyable day on the Wyerley & Essington Canal on Bank Holiday Monday. The weather proved to be just fine for my introduction to canal fishing, judging by the number of tench that were coming out, to other, more experienced anglers than myself! I finished the day with 3 small perch and a canny roach. I fished on the extension junction, looked a likely spot to me, while the guy just downstream of me (Tinca Phil) pulled out a hat full and the guy opposite me pulled out a tench of around 3 pounds less than 10 meters from where my bait had been, just as I was packing up. Hey, That’s fishing for you…..Nice to meet Tony and other lucky regulars who fish that fine stretch of water. Tony, if you’re ever in the North East, give me a shout and I’ll sort a day on the fly after trout, maybe a session on the briny mackerel bashing or perhaps bagging a cod?
