if you are interested in getting into match fishing i would recommend that you pleasure fish a bit more yet and get to grips with the basics. matchfisherman are differnt from normal fisherman as they are more serious due to the pot money at stake. luckily my dad and uncle fish in the same club as me and the people in the club arn't as serious.... but the club before that i fished in were very serious and i finished low down the majority of the time. these fisherman would fish the venue all week just so that they could win the match of which the pot could sometimes reach £150 - £200 for first place and the men there would pull out just under 200lb of fish. but now the club a fish in is less as serious probably because the pot money is far lower. around £30 - £50 for first place and also a 2nd and 3rd place pot and a doubles pot. which is more enjoyable as there is more chance for me to win. even if it is a lot less.
if your dad enjoys fishing or any of your family then ask them if they want to join a club with you. it would also then be easier to travel to venues if you go with someone older as the matches i fish at can reach 100 miles there and back.
the only downfall is the early mornings. some matches start at 9 so i have to get up at 5.30 to get ready and i am nakered when i get back from the matches.
hopefully as you gain more experience your pb will increase and you will begin to win more matches if you decided to join a club and the pot money you win could pay for new better fishing equipment and pay for you pleasure fishing.

hope this helped
