Default mm help needed

Hi, got talked into start fishing with my 13 yr son, yesterday loaded two reels with new line,
today we were totally besiged with line knots and snags, did iput the line on correctly or as it was very windy use the wrong line ( 4lb)

Any and all help greatly accepted, been reading various things but it seems a basic knowledge is needed for the advise to mean anything.

you sure you didn't over fill the spools on your reels.
this can cause lot of problems i think
where was you fishing lakes or on the river?
i think the line depends on what you are fishing for and where you are fishing?

The easiest way to load line on to a reel is to have the line in a bucket of water and reel it on this gives it the right tension and helps to eliminate line twist, always ensure that the line is filled up just level with the lip of the spool dont try to put more than that on, another method of loading it is to have the line running between a heavy book like a telephone directory or kays catalogue. 4lb line is ok for ledgering and feeder work may be a bit heavy for general float fishing.

Thanks to everyone for your help, the line is Daiwa sensor monofil, it makes sence that i may have the line twisted this would account for the unravelling twisting effect.
I was at a lake, the line was blowing like mad at the rod handle and then twisting around the reel, i became aware and had to concentrate on the flaot and line twist at the same time, i bet I'm giving you a right old laugh.

Robbie if there's enough line surviving on your reel instead of starting again take it on your rod seating to a field of longish grass get your lad to hold the end of the line and run it off the spool then rewind it through the grass. The grass will comb out the twists. Used to work for me until I learnt how to hold the new reel of line!!
