I have decided at the age of 56 to have a go at fishing. It is something I have often thought about but never got around to doing.I live on the Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire border and have some local fishing venues close by.One of these is the Lake at Sookholme which I had trouble finding but I PM,d Worm Master and he set me straight about how to get there for which I am gratefull .
Another place I have been told is good is at Carr Vale near Bolsover which is only 4 miles from me.
I suppose that I have picked the wrong time of the year to start but I will give it a go befor Christmas and look forward to next year.

All the best

John

Welcome aboard John, you are not short of fisheries in your area and no doubt the local lads will point you in the right direction, as a beginer dont be afraid to ask the questions on here, but more importantly ask a few of the anglers fishing your chosen venue, a good fishery should also put you on a few fish at any time of the year they will know where the fish are shoaled up especially in winter.

I will do a post after my first fishing trip to the Sookholme Lake.

Hi john,

Welcome aboard mate , you certainly picked the best site around to learn from so you are on your way to becoming a fully fledged t/A member of the Northen division watch out Brian. Hey so you asked me old mate Terry (Worm master ) for a bit of advise well there is no better bloke to ask, he is a LEG END. One of the best fisheries around here John is Sherwood Forest farm park plenty of choice for all types of angling.

Hope you enjoy your day at Sookholme and let us know how you got on mate.

Welcome to the world of Angling.

it might be just me but i favour fishing the ledger this time of year . using a small maggot feeder with a big worm or corn on the hook will get you plenty of action especialy if there are any islands in the lake. good luck anyway and let us know how you did.

Hi John,

Ian aint far wrong mate, they are on the deck so a bomb or feeder will get you some action. Chopped worm and caster feed with a nice juicy dendra on the hook. But dont ignore the silver fishing mate many a great day has been had, some red maggotts and fish light and you will have a good session mate.

Thanks to all of you for giving me the help I need. You are a good bunch.
I now have some idea of what I need to get befor my first attempt at this fishing game.
What type of rod do you think I should get.Would a 13ft float rod cover the type of fishing I will be doing during the winter .

Thank you all

John
