Default Intro and some questions on match fishing

Hi All

New member here, so greetings to all and a Happy New Year to you and yours.

I'm a Birmingham based angler returning to the sport anfter a hiatus since i was in my teens. I am now in my early 30's, decently kitted out, well read but needing practice. Up to now Ive been splitting my pleasure fishing time between rivers (chub, barbel) and Carping in the close season but now I need a massive boost to my learning curve, as a result I am thinking joining a local friendly club and getting involved in some matches might give me the challenge and step up in experience and knowledge I need.

Does anyone have any advice on finding/know of a suitable club in the Birmingham/Black Country area?

Thanks in advance and tight lines

Ian

Coleshill AC used to be very big around the Birmingham area. Not sure now though. The Birmingham Anglers Association has a lot of waters around there and is an amalgamation of clubs. I believe they have full time staff so you could try ringing them and find out club details from them. Perhaps the best place to ask is in the local tackle shop. Ask them which local clubs run matches and importantly which clubs have regular monthly meetings. Far more fish are caught at monthly meetings than ever are on the bank! Also after a couple of pints the captor of the best weight at the last match is far more likely to spill the beans as to how he did it.
