June 16th was always magical,,, i feel for people who have not experienced that feeling of being out the first day I have had some poor days on the 16th but they all become magical afterwards.....But time waits for no man the fish dont adhere to our dates that we select for them to spawn.........i hope its abolished its a great time to be out and about .i look forward to it

Cant see the point of having a closed season on rivers when 'nobody' fishes them any more any way. That was a bit tongue in cheek, but im only planning to fish a river once this year, sometime in September, it really dosent bother me at all.

Its not so much the fishing that i think is affected but as we pay an environment licence and not a fishing licence anymore we should take into considerarion the things affected by us fishing in close season around us and not just the fishing.Although it seems that the environment agency may be about to take that decision out of our hands.The following was taken from the ea website its an interesting read.
In contrast to stillwaters, most river fisheries are in multiple ownership, with fish free to move between stretches owned by different people. Fisheries management actions taken by one owner will have an impact on the neighbouring waters; this is of particular importance with regard to spawning sites on rivers, which are often very localised.

In February 2000 the independent Salmon & Freshwater Fisheries Review considered close seasons and recommended that:

Byelaws should be introduced to abolish the close season for coarse fish on canals and rivers except where its retention is necessary to avert serious risk of damage to fish stocks.

The Government supported our view that such a proposal should be based on sound science. While sound scientific evidence was available to support the case for removing the close season on canals, it was not available in respect of rivers. Because all river coarse fisheries have a close season, it is virtually impossible to gather the required evidence - a scientific comparison similar to that done for canals would be needed. Our view is that in the absence of scientific evidence, we must take a precautionary approach towards rivers, retaining the current close season.

It should also be noted that the above recommendation resulted in a great deal of representation to Government from angling and fisheries interests opposing the removal of the close season on rivers.

So has the EA says there is no scientific evidence one way or another but they will keep the close season anyway. Why don't they look at other countries that don't have a close season i.e Holland, germany were there doesn't seem to be any impact from anglers in fact the anglers keep an eye on the enviroment when others don't.

Perhaps if there were rivers and no close season in jamaica a few polaticians and civil servants would be of like a shot to check it out.
