Welcome to the site Jeff, and to answer your question on pole fishing yes it is a lot easier on the pole than rod and reel, you can get a lighter and better presentation of your rig.
Can I also suggest that you change your user name from a email address to stop it being picked up by the spammers that roam these sites, I can do it for you should you require it done.

Hi Jeff,

Welcome i'm new here myself.

As Brian said the pole is an excellent bit of kit you can put it just where you want it as long a you've got the length to get it there. Very easy to get to grip with. Your presentation is much better and you don't cause much if any disturbance in your swim when you're shipping in and out.

Can be a bitch with a cross wind to keep stable imo
