Well, this is my first ever blog and my first entry on Talk Angling (TA).
I'm also a newbie to fishing, so hopefully I'll be able to share my learning curve and in turn, help any other newbies out there.
I've bought a couple of rods and reels, a pole (inc elastic and some ready made rigs) already and have joined a couple of my local angling clubs, to give me access to some local areas, as I'm slap bang in the middle of 2 club's waters!
With my rod licence in hand, I've already been down to the canal 3 or 4 times and have also been up to the "swamp", a local lake, stocked with ide up to 5lb (allegedly).
I've not caught a thing so far, but have enjoyed getting used to setting up and learning how my equipment works.....albeit not that well!!!
I'm going to have a look around on TA and see if there is any information I can use when I venture down to the canal again this weekend....
Bye for now and I wish you all "tight lines"!

Newbie to fishing - The trials and tribulations

Messed around with fishing for years but had a break of about 6 years and just getting back into it,i was always a firm believer in rod and line fishing mainly course small silvers and suchlike thinking poles were cheating ,but after the rush i had on wednesday after borrowing a friends 13m pole what a adrenaline rush, went to a place called brookfields in the midlands with a slight clue to what i was doing .The first hour was rewarding with 2 goodgeon lol while my fishing sensai was bagging carp how frustrating !after a while i started to find my feet when i took the time to find the depth and underwater features which helped considerably ,ended up having my best day ever after finding a shelf with a drop off feeding micro pellets and fishing over top with a 10 mm pellet ,ended up very wet as was raining all day but was surprised and very happy and to top it off i gotta get a new pole and hang up the rods i've got the bug back and i love it !ps may have got carried away lol
Think i prefer the and the ledger though. Got hooked on all the fishing programmes on the telly great viewing. All this new stuff they go on about, safe zone leaders and the like, its certainly an education. Love it.
