catching skimmers

Hi all,
How would you approach a venue full of skimmers but ground bait is banned. Would you just replace it with micro pellets and feed the same or what other methods would you use to keep them on the deck.

1. Bread Punch if allowed - fish white maggot on the hook / punch.
2. Chopped worm with caster / small red worm on the hook.
3. Bloodworm and joker, feed the joker just using grey leam - three / four bloodworm on the hook.
4. Micros and expander on the hook.

Take your pick. My choice would be the punch if it is allowed.

Depends on the venue. If it is a commercial, go with pellets. If it is natural, try punch although you may not be allowed to feed likky as it is exactly the same as groundbait. If that is the case, go for the chopped worm option, maybe with some molehill soil or damp leam flavoured with Brasem.

The venue isn't strictly a commy but holds a fair few carp. The skimmers do have tendancy to come up in the water and you can be plaqued with liners. Some pegs have a depth between 7 -8 feet and seem to be the most productive. obviously keeping them on the deck would help. i think next time i'll try micro and pellet in these deeper swims. thanks again

Make sure you dampen the micros well and squeeze them into very hard balls when feeding. Don't worry about how they look, they will break down within a couple of minutes into individual pellets again.
If you try feeding half a dozen big balls of pellets, similar to how you would do it with groundbait, you may find the skims stay on the deck. I would probably put a couple of handfuls of 4mm in there as well, maybe even 6mms. You need feed that will not get wafted up by the fish.
Could also be worth trying corn in the feed and on the hook. Take a look at my film here: YouTube - Stafford Silvers

Thanks steve, i was thinking of putting sweetcorn in with the micros. Do you think its worth flavouring the micro's?

I wouldn't bother with flavours. I think the fish will want to eat pellets and/or corn, so why give them anything different?
