    Do you still have to consider the tow when fishing off bottom/mid water (I'm thinking float weight & shotting here).

    Not really mate, maybe use a slightly heavier float but you're catching most of the fish on the drop anyway so just fish as normal and if it's really bad you won't be fishing a float anyway, chuck a lead, pop-ups can work if its really windy but the fish are still off bottom.
