Joker is the larvae of the midge fly. Tiny,tiny little red larvae that is used as feed, usually in leam. When potted in they dance up and down on the bottom attracting fish.
Anglers usually fish bloodworm over the top, but joker can be a deadly bait in it's own right. Nightmare to keep for any length of time though. You also need very fine hooks from a 22-26 to hook the blighters.
Reason they use leam is that the salt content in groundbait can quickly kill them.On the gathering storm comes a tall handsome man, in a dusty black coat and red right hand.
