First time fishing this Sunday!

It will be our first time out fishing on Sunday. Between me and my brother we have got rods, reels floats and all the other sundry items but there are a few things I am not sure about. If we are fishing initially with one rod each, from the same place, do we need two landing nets and, bait boxes? Or can we share those? and another silly question, do we need rod rests?

I am sure I will look back at this post in months to come and cringe but, at the moment, these are all the things I just don't know. I am sure once we have actually had a go, a lot of this basic stuff will be answered but then I will have a whole new lot of questions...

If anyone has any beginners tips please fell free to post them. At the moment I need all the help I can get. In another 50 years I will be able to help you guys out as I will have a bit more experience even if I will be 109 by then.

No such thing as a silly question,if the water you are fishing is heaveyly stocked perhaps two landing nets would be advisable,rod rests optional really...don't know where your fishing but a couple of tins of corn and a pint of maggot and you should be good to go..if your on a commercial its worth having a read of fishery rules before you start and make sure you have your rod liecence with you,most important thing is enjoy your day...

Thank you for your reply. We have our licences and we like this place (BAX FARM) because it has very few rules. On the one fact-finding visit we made, all the people we met were very friendly.

We plan to make an early start and just have a good time. If we do manage to catch anything on our first time out, that will be a bonus! I will post the results on my blog - good or bad!

Thanks for the links - Very interesting to see how others do it. I think once we get the gear wet on Sunday I will be able to evaluate all this stuff I have been reading and watching for the last couple of weeks. Should be fun

Today (Sunday) was supposed to be the first time out fishing. Well... On Saturday evening we went out for a meal in a very nice fish restaurant in Hastings with my Godson and his wife. The food was very nice and everything went well until we got home. I have a problem with shellfish and as such avoid it (them?) like the plague. Without going into detail, I got very little sleep on Saturday night and realised the starter must have been made with a fish sauce that contained shellfish of some kind!

Brilliant! My first outing scuppered by a fish supper. Oh well, I will try and have another go on Wednesday.

That sucks! I remember my first time with my dad nearly 20 years ago was so excited! That feeling doesn't go even now!

Okay, I managed to get out and fish a couple of weeks ago and actually caught four fish! The place I went to is called Bax Farm, in Kent, and this is the lake recommended for beginners - like me! I expected to catch some really small fish but I was surprised when I caught fist of a reasonable size - it certainly made my day and has spurred me on to do some more. This Sunday I intend to return and have a second go. This time I intend to fish the same lake (I don't want to run before I can walk) But I would like to catch something other than the carp. Any suggestions, change of bait/end tackle, or should I just keep going as I am and see what happens?

Thank you for the kind words, I am please you like my blog, I try and make more about all the stuff that goes on around a spot of 'casual' fishing - serious stuff!

That photograph took several attempts to get right - a bit like fishing! But I have to confess that one was down to Sue! More stories after Sunday's outing!
