  • Meat & Paste Hooks with Metal Tails

    Hi

    Quick question.

I have used the Middy meat and paste hooks before.

They are the ones with metal tails on for screwing meat on or molding paste around.

Is it true that these hooks are appearing to damage fish and some fisheries are now banning them?

I have not fished for iver a year and i was going to buy some more of these hooks until i was advised on this issue.

Now i have thought about it i am going to stay away from them.

so what is the best way of fishing meat and paste now?

For meat i suppose a hair rig is good and for paste is to mould it round a large hook?

what size hooks do people use for paste?

I am looking at fishing your usual commerical for carp.

For paste fishing i tend to use eyed kamasan animals in a size 12.
I tie these using a knotless knot and leave a 5-10mm tag.
With the combination of the eye and the line tag you have something fairly substantial to mould your paste around. Been using this for a few seasons now and it works a treat for me.
