I fish in the NW - when would you start using meat ?
I would wait until we get a settled spell of warm weather mate, usually about mid April.
The fish have to be constantly on the move and then their metabolism will be at full belt as it is a very filling bait and hard for them to digest in cold water.
You can still use it as a spot bait all year but do not feed any as it may only take a single cube to fill a fish up for the day due to the high fat content of the bait.
Don't forget that here in the NorthWest the water does not warm as quickly as down south so they will be a few weeks ahead of us in the meat stakes.
On the gathering storm comes a tall handsome man, in a dusty black coat and red right hand.
