Trent and Mersey Canal - Alrewas

Hey Guys,

I am in need of some help regarding the Trent and Mersey Canal - at Alrewas between the lock at junipar indian restaurant (the old swan pub) and the alrewas lock (by the 1/4 mile white bridge).. I have a feature to write regarding canal CARPING, as a my mother-in-law lives along this stretch its easy for baiting up etc... any tips will be most appreciated.

I havent fished it for over 10 years but used to have some cracking Chub out from tight accross the far bank!

The club I fish for Walsall and district own 5 miles of the trent and mersey from the crown pub through tuppenhust. I have fished this stretch for about 7 years now and have yet to see a carp but there are some cracking chub to 5lb and is very good for roach from a few onces to over 1lb and some big perch. We mainly fish the crown stretch, tuppenhurst bridge and the rhoderdendrums (spelling) Average weights are between 5lb and 8lb with low double figures a good weight. If you feed caster over and the chub show you can have 2 or 3 in a match. Typical canal tactics will score but beware there will be lots af boats all day long :-(

Gear up for the chub as on some pegs where theres brambles, you need to hit the bite then pull your pole straight round else they are straight into the brambles

Yep,

If you park at tuppenhurst bridge and walk past the pylons, past the turning bay there are some noted chub pegs across the reeds there, also some overhanging bushes and trees which hold some big chub. The turning bay looks very inviting but it is very shallow and you wil need to fish the waggler over and spray caster or maggot.

I have never seen or heard of anyone who has ,seen a Carp caught along there.
As others have pointed out there have always been some Huge Chub there

When I joined the club that owns the fishing rights 6 years ago there was a peg just past the turning bay on the crown stretch that had a half sunken barge half in the water half in someones back garden. There was apparently 1 or 2 carp reside in this peg that would often get hooked but never landed. Also residents on the opposite bank have often quoted during matches that they feed the ducks in the summer and large carp have been seen to take bread from the surface. But as I and big col have said, i have never seen a carp in 7 years landed or even hooked. When you hit a big chub you could be forgiven for thinking that it was a carp, until you see it, they are huge ! Never seen a skimmer or bream either. Some good roach though.

did I speak to you last Sunday ? when I was pegged next to Ernie and Pricey ??? I spoke to a guy who used to fish for us a few years ago who had Sensas bib and brace on. I am sure I heard you mention you had landed a couple of carp a few years ago.
