  • Ivan marks pacemaker floats are there any about

Think they went from 3bb to 6bb, made if i remember they were balsa great river float, or is there anything as good about today

They were basically a slim balsa with a short cane stem added for a bit of extra stability. Try converting a balsa float yourself, or putting a couple of BBs under the base of a balsa when you fish it.
I think the reason for using them in the past was because most anglers wanted to fish as light as possible. Nowadays I would say most top anglers are not afraid to use enough weight to 'boss' a situation, so the pacemaker is pretty much redundant.
If you want to really have a good day on a river, try a big flat float on the rod and line for the ultimate in control.
