  • Wanted: Shimano Ultegra 5500XSB or 4500XSB reel

    Hi All,

I’m after Shimano Ultegra, preferably a 5500 XSB, but will consider a 4500 XSB.

I know this model is now superseded by the XTB range but I already have a 5500 XSB and I’m happy with that.

Please contact me via PM or email if you can help. Cash waiting. I’ located in Solihull, B’ham.

    Thanks,

Scott, they take some getting used to. They're only good for casting 80+ yards, with the right rod and method/feeder. You wouldn't wanna use it for any less than 70-80yards as it's pointless.

I didn't find much difference from a TDX3012 to an Ultegra to begin with, but that was due to the rod eyes not suiting the large spooled reel. Since changing rods, I can see it's benefits, I prob gain 15-25yards 'cus of the larger spool and the retreive is much quicker.

The drag is terrible on them too, too noisy and doesn't engage quick enough. I prefer to bank wind anyhow.

Other than all the above, I love mine lol.

I was using a Garbolino Super G 12ft for long casts, but I wasn't gaining any distance when using the Ultegra compared to a TDX. I swapped to a Garbolino Distance Feeder and the difference was massive but I didn't like the rod, it's mega stiff. Someone suggested having bigger eyes put on my 12ft Super G as the big spool doesn't suit the small eyes, so I had a butt section made to fit my 12ft Super G with bigger first 2 eyes.

The difference is massive, it just feels so much better. Not too stiff when playing fish yet it feel so comfortable when casting 45-50gr methods 90-100yards. The butt section is the best thing I've ever bought.

              Fair play mate.

I've got the 13ft distance feeder and love it to bits, i think theres more than enough give in the tip to play fish. each to their own!!

              Cheers James!

Someone must have an Ultegra sat in the garage/shed that they're wishing to part with for good money...
