  • World Champion Carries the Olympic Torch for Angling

#fishing #angling Sea Angling World Champion Chris Clark carried the Olympictorch through the streets of Lymington last weekend, watched by 20,000 people, despitedriving rain.
A video of Chris Clark’s run is available here:
Chris said: “carrying the Torch was even more satisfyingpersonally than winning my first World Championships, and it was a great dayfor angling.”
Since competing in his first World Shore Championship in1990, Chris has won 20 World medals for shore angling: gold, silver and bronzeas an individual; gold, silver and bronze as a team member; and gold, silverand bronze as a manager of the England junior team.
For several years in the late nineties Chris was ranked asthe No1 in the World but a horrific accident in 2001 has seen him only fish afew times at international level in recent years.
His right shoulder and upper arm were completely smashed andhe now has a stainless steel shoulder joint and a rod going down into hiselbow. He also suffered very serious leg injuries and was told there was a goodchance he could finish up in a wheelchair and that his competitive fishing daysmay be over.
Chris was determined to prove the experts wrong. Within three weeks after leaving hospital hewas again fishing with his leg in a brace and one arm strapped up. Althoughcasting was very painful and he got himself fit enough to fish the WorldChampionships and won an individual bronze medal which Chris says: ‘actuallymeans more to me than any gold medal which I had won previously.’
Since his accident Chris now mainly concentrates on his roleof manager of the England junior team. His daughter Lucy Jones nominated Christo be a torchbearer in recognition of his achievements and his work with youngpeople.
