  • Local Leicester Sensas angler wins gold at the Angling Trust Veterans National Champi

#fishing #angling This year’s Veterans National Championship was hosted jointly by Peatling Parva Lakes and Shearsby Valley Lakes in Leicestershire on Wednesday 1st August and was contested by a field of 157 anglers. On a cloudy but warm breezy day the Peatling complex was the place to draw particularly Plough and Harrow lakes from which came eight of the top ten individuals.
The winner in a closely fought contest was local angler Bob Greenbury (Leicester Sensas) who has a good record on this venue. Bob fished peg 5 on Plough Lake at Peatling and caught lots of F1’s and common carp to boost his weight to 40.700 kg. His simple tactic was to fish a 4 millimetre expander pellet very close into the bankside vegetation three metres down his peg. He caught steadily through the day.
In second place was John Ellis who is a previous winner of this competition. John fished peg 15 on C Lake at Peatling. For the first two hours he fished shallow with maggot and had about ten kilos of carp and chub. He then switched to fishing close to the bankside vegetation feeding casters and fishing maggot on the hook where he took lots of small barbel and carp to total 39.500kg.
Third place went to Samuel Egerton fishing peg 36 on Lake A at Peatling. Samuel had 14 carp weighing 37.900 kg he fished a banded pellet on the straight lead.
In total there were 68 anglers who weighed in excess of 10 kilograms each which is good fishing in anyone’s language.
