The Zutons/Amy Winehouse.. Valerie springs to mind, debateable which is the better version, but the Winehouse cover is a much bigger hit.

Never been one for cover versions........but just look on youtube under "greatest guitar solo ever".
The tribute to George Harrison done by whats left of the Traveling Wilburys (feat Prince).....took an all time
classic to a new dimension. Always thought of Prince as a demented dwarf.....never again.

These the only ones I can think of that's better than the original:

YouTube - No Doubt - Its My Life

YouTube - Gary Jules - Mad World

And both of these are equally good versions of the same song, but you need to like talking heads, they are a bit of an aquired taste:

original YouTube - Al Green-Take Me To The River.

cover YouTube - Talking Heads - Take Me To The River

chris cornell's version of billie jean is way above the original, johnny cash's cover of hurt by nine inch nails is also superb. if you want to check out some elvis impersonating german rockabilly versions of modern chart stuff then check out the baseballs, great stuff and guaranteed to make you smile.

no shooter not a wind up, can't stand the kiddie fiddler normally but cornells version has so much more depth feeling and soul.
