  • Hello All

Hello, my name is James Gilbert and I am a very keen fisherman. I fish as much as I can out of the 7 days a week which I usualy fish 2-3 if I can. I love to match fish and I have just finished fishing my summer league at my club water and I came 2nd overall out of over 25 which I think is good to say every other angler are double my age and have much more knowledge than I do.
I also fished my Winter league matches last year and I currently hold the trophie untill this coming winter. But I do hope that I can retain it again
The waters which I fish are not "commercialised" of which you can get 200lb weights in a 3-5 hour match but a water which you have to "fish for your weight". I find this better as you know if youhave a good bag of roach you have faught for them fish and they didn't just jump onto your hook. The matches in the summer league are 2.5hours long on a wednsday night and the weights are all roach with the winner needing around 10lb of roach. The best roach bag was 23lb in 2.5hours in the past year. I averaged weights of 7-10lb regulaly on choped worm and caster short and hemp and tare long. This produced well at the begining of the match for roach of around the 5-8oz mark on the choped worm/caster line and then with an hour to go I would go out and get a couple of fish of around 10oz-1lb mark on the hemp and tare. I do wish to fish commercial matchees when I get a car but as I am a student- cash is tight! And hopefuly I would do well in one or two of the commercial matches.

Well there is a little about me and my match fishing, I hope you like and tight lines!

    James

Welcome to the site mate, when you do move onto commercials you might find its a bit more difficult than you think. The silvers are easy to catch its avoiding them and getting the larger fish thats the skill.

Hello and thankyou for your reply. I know what you are saying and I wasn't trying to be unplesent towards anyone who fishes commercials saying that is "easy " to catch and anyone can catch carp there. I was just meaning it is "easier" and i have fished a couple of matches on commercials, i.e Ian heaps fisheries, i had a good weight of 93lb which won my section and at white springs in Wales where my dad lives i had a weight of 104lb somethign which wasn't enough to win but had a reasonable 3rd.

                Thanks again
                James
